Classic Game Night | Traditions Guide No. 019

Apr 8, 2016 by Christine

This weekend, fight the urge to Netflix binge and host a game night with a few friends instead! No TV or phones allowed. And to make sure no one is tempted to scroll through Instagram during round three of Reverse Charades, we suggest you greet your guests with a “no phones” basket. Yes, that’s right. As they’re taking off their shoes, take away their phone. Eyes may begin to twitch but we promise this side effect only lasts about 15 minutes. Beer helps with the coping (some of our favorites below).

And if you’re wondering what to play, you can’t go wrong with the classics. Some of our favorite games include The Game of Things, Rollick, Taboo, Big Boggle, Scrabble, Guesstures and Pictionary.

May you laugh out loud, eat popcorn chicken to your heart’s content, and embrace the no-screen time.

These are some of our most favorite finger foods that are so worth making and a giant cookie for dessert. You can (and should for the cookie dough) make everything a day in advance except for the popcorn chicken. Fry that up right before serving.

Popcorn Chicken with Honey Mustard Sauce

Kohlrabi and Spring Root Crudités with Chive Buttermilk Ranch

Garlicky White Bean Spread with Homemade Pita Wedges

Chocolate Chip Pecan Skillet Cookie

Some notes on brews: These are some of our favorites: amber ale, sour Belgian ale, golden lager, and porter. We love this chart for profiling different types and once you know what you like, this chart is spot-on for recommendations. If you want to be adventurous, ask for recommendations in store, too, or google your local microbrewery and pay them a visit.
